Welcome back to everyone who has been with us on this journey from the beginning! And a warm welcome to all my new readers!
If you feel a little bit lost, let me quickly summarize! In the beginning of June 2020 I decided that, since I couldn’t even find the space to work on my dress projects anymore, it was time for a proper decluttering and make-over of our home.
If you would like to know how everything began, please check out my initial post on this Clean & Declutter Challenge.
Fail or Success? That was the main question of our Declutter Challenge this week.
So much happened in our fourth week! A total living room make-over and it was probably one of the most challenging tasks so far. One thing is for sure: This last week was a proper roller coaster ride!
Do you know this feeling when everything just seems to go awry? Nothing clicks, the work you put in seems to get you nowhere and all in all it just feels like the universe is totally against you?
Half way through Week 4 that is exactly how it felt for me.
As it was in my previous post, first here is a little reminder that you can join this challenge too! Just download the free clean & declutter checklist templates and start any time you like!

To really know what happened during our living room make-over, you will have to watch the video from beginning to end! I’m not going to give away too much for now <(￣︶￣)>, but I will go a little bit into the details of our journey so far.
WEEK 4 of our Clean & Declutter Challenge
I guess, I could just copy paste Day 1 from all my previous post, because somehow I never manage to get started with our actual declutter chores until Day 2 anyways… (⌒_⌒;)
So here I was, again taking care of anything but our Week 4 checklist. I honestly don’t even remember much of last Monday. I am sure, I took care of basic tasks in the house and I know for a fact that I was already browsing through some offers for new(used) living room furniture possibilities.
I imagine that everybody has those days, where time just flies and in the end you don’t really know what you have done, or if you accomplished anything at all. However, I think that is also a good thing. Sometimes you just need to switch off, follow your normal routine and also procrastinate a little, so you can get back on track the next day.
That is exactly what I did! (o^－^o)
The motivation comes back even stronger after some rest and recuperation. So, if you have been getting into this challenge as well and maybe you are struggling a bit to see your accomplishments, just take a time out and step back a little!
We call it a Clean & Declutter Challenge, but in the end, the main point is to CHALLENGE yourself and to free yourself from clutter, NOT to over-work yourself and then give up halfway through, because you can’t keep up with the time table!
That would totally defeat the purpose, right?
With that little lecture on “take it easy” out of the way, let’s move on with our week.
On day two, I finally started fighting through the mountains of clutter in our living room. Getting rid/packing away baby toys that Cami has already grown out of was the first part and immediately made more room to move.
Phase two was going through all these unnecessary VHS tapes.
Sometimes I wonder how so much useless clutter can accumulate. Who ever thought it would be a good idea to buy all these different videos and then never watch them?
Do you know those blue IKEA bags? The really sturdy ones?
At the end of Day 2 we had one of those bags filled to the top with VHS tapes and then some. I would say that qualifies as “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED“.
Day three was supposed to be the first real living room make-over day. There was just too many book shelves around, so my job was to clear out the one we don’t want to keep, take some pictures of it and maybe try to sell it.
Remember that roller coaster ride, I mentioned at the beginning?
Let’s just say the cart went downhill at full speed. This is where I will leave the rest up to your imagination… Just kidding! (⌒▽⌒)☆
What I really want you guys to do to get the full experience… or as much as I could record anyways, is watch the video! It’s not that long, so if you can find the time, please do watch it from beginning to end.
What can I say? The fourth day held what it promised.
I moved some furniture and we took all the things we wanted to give away to our local second hand store (and they were REALLY happy! o(≧∇≦o))
Also, I had agreed with a private seller via this online second hand store to buy the TV stand they offered, because ours is specifically for a corner and against a straight wall takes up a lot of space. A time was agreed and we, my eldest, William, and me went to get the new addition to our living room, or so we thought at the time.
The color was totally off!!
Don’t you hate that, when people don’t know how to use the right lighting when taking pictures! Of course I don’t expect everyone to be a professional photographer, but I believe it is common courtesy to at least mention in the description that the color is darker/lighter, more red/less red, etc., than in the picture. （；¬＿¬)
Needless to say, we declined the purchase and went back home empty handed…
On day five the ride became much more enjoyable again.
Again I implore you to just watch the video below, because my words can only tell so much.
After a lot of lifting and pushing and pulling, the living room make-over finally started to come together.
I am indeed glad that I scheduled two weeks for this living room project. Not only am I still in the market for that perfect TV stand, but also there are still a lot of things left to do.
Day 6 & Day 7
The weekend was again mostly spent with my part-time job, lots and lots of editing, a little bit of grocery shopping and early bedtime. As some of you might have noticed, this Clean & Declutter Challenge Week 4 post came out a day late again. I apologize for the delay, but I had a very early Week 5 Monday. (◕‿◕✿)
I did my Motorcycle Handling Test and PASSED!! YAY!! (●⌒∇⌒●)
Now, without any further delay, here is our Week 4 roller coaster ride.
Living Room Make-over – Week 4 with tiny Complications:
Phew, that sure was quite a ride!
I am actually surprised that it turned out like this. After day 3, I was definitely expecting the worst.
Did you enjoy the drama? What do you think? Fail or Success?
I am very much looking forward to Week 5, as it is finally time to get my sewing corner in order and put some of those wall stickers up. (´ ▽｀).。ｏ♡
I actually already received a notice from my local post office that another package has arrived, so I can’t wait to unwrap more of my pretty stickers with you guys!
Have you ever had the kind of mishaps happen to you, that made you doubt yourself?
Please tell me about it! I would also like to know how you overcame the obstacle. Just leave me some comments and tell me about your stories, decluttering or otherwise.
Don’t forget to download the new checklist template for Week 5 and remember to rest and recharge!!!. You can also download the templates for the previous weeks! Just click on the links at the beginning of this post.
