It’s time to get the house in order with our Clean & Declutter Challenge
Today it’s all about the cleaning, organizing and declutter movement. Let’s just start with: Our house is a mess…
Do you know this problem? Too little space and too many things.
If you happen to find yourself in a similar situation, have you ever considered to just say: “ENOUGH! Let’s clean and get all this clutter out of the house!”?

Personally I am barely able to find the room for working on my dresses and designs, let alone space to move. The Corona pandemic only made things worse, with everyone staying at home and leaving even more things just lying around.
I have started to go back to my part-time job and frankly I have reached my limit.
With a toddler around, dropping her toys (and other things) wherever she stands and walks, it is nearly impossible to catch up, therefore I have decided to join the great Clean & Declutter Challenge movement.
I have read and studied many similar clean & declutter challenges over the last few weeks, as things just kept on piling up more and more in our house, and all of them agree on one thing:
You can’t do it all in one day.
It’s true! Who has the time to spend a whole day sorting through a huge mess, when you are also expected to go to work, take care of the kids, and take care of so many other chores? Let alone the fact that the mess that has accumulated in so many of our homes over months, if not years, can’t be taken care of in just one single day or even a weekend.
The best way, according to many different opinions, including my own, to achieve a tidier home, is to do it over a longer period of time. Steady, systematical cleaning, putting things into new, more practical places and getting into the habit of keeping them there takes time.
This is where the 6 weeks come in. For some this might not be enough, for others this is plenty of time. I decided on the six week limit to get things done, after making a list and going through everything that has to be done.
From clearing out storage, over sorting through closets, to completely rearranging the living room – taking into consideration that I am also back to my job and have to take care of the kids – my realistic estimation came to approximately 6 weeks.
In our case the kids are now on summer vacation so there is no better time to have everyone help with getting the mess under control.
But it’s not only a simple Clean & Declutter project!
The best part of this challenge is that it presents the opportunity to also rearrange, renovated and beautify. At least that’s the plan.
For me the idea is to not only make room, but to also make our house much more “woodlandy“, by possible changing some of our furniture, adding a few new accessories to our shelves (after making room) and putting beautiful wall stickers in different rooms. In my case, I am definitely aiming for a style that reflects my Celtic Mori Girl – Wiccan Fairy Hybrid personality.
And now is your chance!
How about joining me and my family in our challenge? Like I said, it doesn’t just end in cleaning and decluttering, but we should also focus on, if not renovating, then at least rearranging to gain more space and maybe bring a new refreshed mood into our homes.
Whatever your style, living situation or budget, there are plenty of ways to make the house more homey! Check out this post called “Decorate A Rental Home In 10 Easy Ways” by Homemaker Handbook. They have some great ideas on how to beautify/decorate your home, even if it’s only a rental.
In this video I’m going more into detail about the declutter tasks that await us in the next couple of weeks. Also, I will tell you how I am planning to achieve the beautifying task I set for myself.
As promised in the video above, at the end of this post you can find the download link for the Week 01 checklist templates.
The wall stickers I was talking about are 💗soooo cute💗 and I wish I could’ve bought all of the ones I wanted, but I decided to only get a few at first to try them out. If they work well and I feel like the look is not complete yet, I will probably order a few more at a later time.
Here are a few of the ones I decided to order this time around.
Cherry Blossoms (could be peach) for the living room. I ordered two of these, because I believe that it will give the room more balance.
Panda bears for Cami 💗
These are the pandas that will hopefully soon be playing around Cami’s bed.
And this is one of the many 🦄 unicorn stickers 🦄 that will turn our home into a land of magic and fantasy… I hope
And those are just a few.
First we have to start our Clean & Declutter Challenge. This coming Monday, June 08, is the start of our journey to a cleaner, more spacious and more comfortable home.
